Spacing Out

I did it. No work, no routine, no excuse. We’re in Mexico and I have a full day of leisure ahead of me. I feel great… but wait a minute: I don’t feel great. In fact I am terrified.

What do you do when all the excuses are gone, when you have the choice and the time to do anything, when there is noone to blame?

“Space, the final frontier”: these words echo in my mind. When everything else is gone, when there is no more “shoulds”, what’s left is a huge empty space… and me. The tiny me that was compressed and pushed into a corner by all the other stuff that I filled my life with. I was so busy… being busy. Filling the space with all the things that should have made me happy but never did.

Now that I’ve taken all the crap out of my life, of course this little piece of me is scared: it’s out in the open, with an infinity of possibilities and no place to hide. What is it going to do?

EXPAND!

Fill the space with things that really matter.

Let the tiny me grow and take as much space as he needs. No: as much space as he wants. Who knows? This little guy might end-up being someone interesting.

  • nice change to the blog name. i don’t follow anyone’s blog…well, except Tim Ferriss, and I find myself leaving yours up and checking it daily to see what you’re up to. Ah, seriously, feeling like you are the me that stepped out of my skin and did what he wanted to do for once. So challenging. Thanks. how long do you plan to be in San Carlos? I’ll be taking a couple of weeks off soon, learning to kite-board, then not sure what. new job for sure, just not sure what else, or when. maybe a visit al Sur…

  • @Nico: thank you, I am honored that you are enjoying this blog. I’ll keep posting stuff here occasionally and there will be regular travel updates on http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog/cedric.brehaut/1/tpod.html. I’m finishing one up today. We’re no longer in San Carlos – we moved to Mazatlan. We’ll probably stay there about a week and then move on South to San Blas, San Francisco and Puerto Vallarta before we head to Guadalajara. If your itinerary is open just contact me shortly before your trip and I should know approximately where we’ll be. We’ll be glad to welcome you as a guest if we have space, or to help you find a place to stay nearby if we don’t. Enjoy the kiteboarding, this sounds like a lot of fun.
